Stage 2 — Prepare & Register

Shape Your Home’s Identity (Deepening Your Ethos)

Together, we begin turning your ethos into written clarity:

  • What your home stands for
  • The emotional environment you want to create
  • The model of care you’ll use
  • How you want children and staff to feel within your walls
This becomes the heart of the documents you’ll need later.

Begin Your Statement of Purpose & Children’s Guide

These documents express who you are and what children can expect.

  • In this stage we gently start shaping:
  • Your home’s purpose
  • The children you intend to care for
  • Your values and approach
  • How you support safety, wellbeing and progress
  • How children’s voices will be heard
It’s about capturing your heart and clarity — not “just paperwork.”

Develop Your Core Policies & Procedures

This part can feel overwhelming for many providers, so we make it manageable.
You’ll begin creating the essential policy set that reflects:

  • Safety and safeguarding
  • Daily living and routines
  • Behaviour support
  • Staff roles and responsibilities
  • Decision-making and escalation
  • Record-keeping and communication
We help you build a policy suite that feels real, practical, and aligned with your ethos.

Prepare for Your SC1 & SC2 Application

We walk you through the early steps of registering with Ofsted:

  • What information you’ll need
  • How to gather supporting documents
  • What the application process looks like
  • Feeling prepared for interviews and conversations
  • Understanding timescales gently, with no rush
We ensure you feel safe, informed and ready — one step at a time.

Begin Thinking About Your Property (Soft Introduction)

No pressure — just early guidance.
We help you consider:

  • What a suitable home looks and feels like
  • Location considerations
  • The type of environment that fits your ethos
  • Practicalities that support daily life
This gives you clarity before you commit to a building.

Establish Your Early Staffing Vision

This isn’t recruitment yet — just shaping the picture:

  • What kind of Registered Manager you want
  • Qualities and experience that reflect your values
  • How you want your team to show up for children
  • The relational culture you want to lead
This stage plants the seeds of your future team.

How You Feel After This Stage

By the end of Prepare & Register, a provider should feel:

  • Clear about the documents and steps ahead
  • Supported through what might otherwise be overwhelming
  • Connected to their home’s identity and ethos
  • Reassured that the process is achievable
  • Confident enough to take the first formal steps
  • Ready for the next stage — building your home and your team
This stage transforms the dream into a grounded, structured beginning.
